Plastic Surgery for a Strong and Confident Profile

Over the course of the last twenty five years as a board certified plastic surgeon specializing in reconstructive and cosmetic facial procedures, I have watched attitudes towards plastic surgery change a great deal.  One of the most significant changes that I have observed has been the way men have increasingly come to embrace facial plastic surgery.  In the last five years alone, I have seen a steady increase in the number of male patients coming into my office seeking various forms of facial rejuvenation, ranging from minimally-invasive cosmetic injectables, like Botox® or facial fillers, to more significant, long-lasting cosmetic facial plastic surgery procedures such as eyelid surgery.  One of the areas of concern that my male patients most often seek to address is the lower face, specifically the area defined by the chin and jaw.  Not only is this area one of the first that is affected by the advancement of facial aging, it is also one of the areas where subtle changes can bring about profound yet natural looking cosmetic surgery results.

Male Facial Plastic Surgery Atlanta GAOver time, the muscles and tissues of the body tend to lose strength and elasticity, especially in areas that see a great deal of use.  This gradual process is particularly noticeable in the face, where the tiny muscles responsible for constantly shifting facial expressions begin to stretch and sag, allowing excess fat and skin to slide down the face and form folds around the neck and jaw.  While the effects of facial sagging, such as the proverbial “double chin” or “turkey neck,” can be unpleasant for either gender, they can be particularly troubling for men competing in a competitive and increasingly young job market, where a firm and chiseled jaw line is often perceived as synonymous with confidence, decisiveness, and masculinity.  Often a neck lift can help alleviate these symptoms and give the entire face a more youthful and dynamic appearance.

During a neck lift, or lower rhytidectomy, incisions are made under the chin and around the ears to allow sagging neck muscles to be lifted and tightened, significantly reducing the appearance of muscle banding around the neck and redefining the jaw line.  At the same time, excess skin can be trimmed away while fat is redistributed or removed completely via liposuction, reducing sagging jowls and helping to create a smoother, younger looking facial profile.  I have also found that supplementing a neck lift procedure with fat transfer or facial contouring to further augment the chin or jaw can bring the facial features into better balance and create a more unified and natural looking whole.
