Whether it’s the vertical marks that form over your nose when you frown or the horizontal lines that form across your forehead when you raise your eyebrows, the brow region is frequently one of the first places where the signs of facial aging become apparent. As we get older and the natural elasticity of the skin begins to lessen, age and gravity can cause this area to sag and droop, creating a heavy, hooded appearance and contributing to the development of deep horizontal wrinkles across the forehead. Although Botox® injectable cosmetic treatments can effectively address many of these symptoms, the results usually last an average of three to six months, making additional injections necessary in order to maintain the smooth, rested appearance in the treated areas. For those patients interested in a more long-term solution to these very common concerns, a surgical brow lift, or forehead lift, may be the answer.
Specifically designed to address ptosis, or natural sagging, in the upper third of the face between the top of the nose and the hairline, a brow lift procedure tightens the underlying muscles of the forehead and then lifts the excess, sagging skin upward. Just a few tiny incisions hidden above the hairline allow me to alleviate deep forehead wrinkles, frown lines, brow furrows, and sagging eyebrows. Certain patients may even be candidates for an advanced endoscopic brow lift, which uses only a thin tube fitted with a camera and special instruments. This “keyhole” technique can achieve results that are similar to a traditional brow lift with fewer incisions and a reduced recovery time. Regardless of the approach, a brow lift can make you look years younger by lifting and smoothing the entire forehead area.
Brow lift procedures are frequently performed in conjunction with eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, a highly specific technique that removes the excess fat and skin from the upper and/or lower eyelids while tightening the tiny underlying muscles that surround them. This counteracts hooding and puffiness that may make the eyes look tired, sleepy, or sad. Because the eyes are usually the focus of any social interaction, a blepharoplasty can achieve subtle but noticeable results with minimal cost, risk, and recovery time.
