The Most Effective Plastic Surgery Procedures for Men

Modern plastic surgery procedures can achieve some truly amazing results, but it has always been my philosophy that they are most effective when they are customized to the individual needs of the patient.  That is why I always recommend using a long-term, graduated approach to facial aging where both non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments and cosmetic plastic surgery procedures are used at different stages in the aging process to maintain a youthful and natural-looking appearance.  However, popular and effective techniques do not only differ by age, but by gender as well.  An ever-increasing number of men have embraced plastic surgery as a way to address their own signs of facial aging, and I have found that there are a handful of specific procedures that tend to give them the best possible facial plastic surgery results.

The Most Effective Plastic Surgery Procedures for MenNon-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation

According to statistics compiled annually by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), nearly half a million men choose to undergo Botox® treatments in 2016, an increase of nearly 400% since 2000.  Many men have found that Botox® not only helps temporarily reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in certain facial areas, but also can even effectively “press pause” on the aging process and postpone the point at which more significant facial plastic surgery procedures might become necessary.  Botox® treatments can also be particularly effective when they are combined with facial fillers, like Juvéderm® or Restylane® that restore lost facial volume and give the face a less gaunt and more youthfully-full appearance.  Finally, skin resurfacing procedures like TCA chemical peels, which can potentially undo years of sun damage, have proven to be very popular with male patients as well.

Cosmetic Facial Plastic Surgery

Some men express concern that facial plastic surgery procedures may make them look less masculine, but I have found that this can be easily avoided by utilizing highly targeted procedures that focus only on the patient’s specific areas of concern.  For example, blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, removes excess skin and tiny fat deposits from the upper and lower eyelids, improving the appearance of hooded and sunken eyes, which are very common complaints in middle-aged and older men.  Many male patients also see plastic surgery as a way to address specific features that they may have been unhappy with since childhood, like the nose or the ears, making male rhinoplasty (nose surgery) and otoplasty (ear surgery) among the most popular facial plastic surgery procedures with this group.  Although these procedures all make only subtle changes that do not alter the fundamental structure of the face, they can each achieve potentially dramatic results.

Plastic surgery is always advancing, and I expect that as these procedures become more refined facial rejuvenation and cosmetic surgery among men will become even more widespread.  However, there will never be such a thing as a “one-size-fits-all” procedure, because every face is unique.  If you would like to come in for a personalized facial rejuvenation consultation to determine the techniques that would be best suited to your specific needs, contact my office and schedule an appointment.  Don’t forget to connect with me, Dr. Fernando Burstein, on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ for the latest facial plastic surgery news.
