When people think about the signs of facial aging, one of the first spots that come to mind is the area between the eyebrows and the hair line, the proverbial brow that creases when we worry and furrows when we’re angry. As we age, we gradually lose skin elasticity, and as the underlying muscles weaken and the skin starts to sag, the forehead often becomes a home for deep horizontal furrows and sharp vertical expression lines between the eyebrows. Fortunately there are several facial rejuvenation techniques and plastic surgery procedures specifically designed to address these extremely common concerns and help keep you looking young and vital.
One of the simplest and most convenient ways to address frown lines, crow’s feet, and many of the more subtle signs of facial aging is with an injectable cosmetic like Botox®. Muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the course of years can cause frown lines to form between the eyebrows and crow’s feet to form at the corners of the eyes. During a minimally-invasive procedure that can take as little as ten minutes, Botox® Cosmetic injections can temporarily reduce muscle activity in precise areas, visibly softening the appearance of the fine lines and wrinkles caused by expression. With adequate dosing, these effects can last an average of three to six months before subsequent maintenance procedures become necessary. Botox® treatments are FDA approved, safe, and effective when administered by a highly trained and experienced practitioner, so be sure to meet with your clinician for a full consultation in order to determine how best to approach the treatment of your facial wrinkles.
For those interested in a more long-term solution to the signs of aging in the upper face, a brow lift, or forehead lift, is specifically designed to reduce the wrinkle lines that develop horizontally across the forehead, as well as those that occur on the bridge of the nose and between the eyes. It can reduce the appearance of frown lines, the vertical creases that develop between the eyebrows, and raise sagging brows that may be hooding the upper eyelids, ultimately placing the eyebrows in a more alert and youthful position. During a surgical brow lift procedure, I can frequently avoid making a single long coronal incision along the top of the head by using a handful of tiny, less-detectable incisions hidden within the hairline. I also often use an advanced endoscopic “key-hole” technique that makes it possible to adjust the tissue and muscle beneath the skin using only a thin tube fitted with a camera and special instruments. In either case, brow lift surgery can rejuvenate the appearance of the entire forehead while lifting and smoothing the eyebrow area.
I believe that the most effective and long-lasting cosmetic plastic surgery results are achieved when barely noticeable alterations work in harmony with the face’s natural features. Procedures targeted to specifically address your individual areas of concern can help you achieve a more refreshed look without anyone realizing that you have had any work done at all.
