Born in the suburbs of Snellville, Georgia, Megan was a patient at Atlanta Plastic Surgery, P.C. ever since she was born. As a pediatric patient, Megan was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate which was repaired by a team of physicians at Atlanta Plastic Surgery when she was an infant. It was not until she turned 24 years old that she considered facial reconstructive surgery with Dr. Burstein. She chose an adult cleft lip and palate reconstruction procedure to improve aesthetic appearance.
While Megan has worked with various physicians throughout her life, she chose Dr. Burstein as he offered a different perspective on her case. “He was willing to try alternative avenues and do more than my previous doctor even if it was a more drastic procedure” she recalls from her consultation. Many adult cleft patients have been reluctant to pursue surgery, but Dr. Burstein offers the latest techniques to improve overall functional and aesthetic results as well as enhanced healing.
As the current Medical Director at the Center of Craniofacial Disorders for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Dr. Burstein works with leading oral surgeons and prosthodontics (prosthetic dentistry) specialists to coordinate care and enhance aesthetic and functional results for his patients. With the latest surgical advancements, adult cleft lip and palate patients can benefit from less invasive techniques such as rigid fixation which avoids wiring jaws, less invasive methods of bone grafting, and the use of bone substitutes to enhance healing.
Today, Megan feels much more confident and pleased with her facial reconstructive surgery results. She highly recommends Dr. Burstein and his medical staff, noting: “[they were] very helpful during my job change. I was allowed to email with photos to make sure everything was settling as desired.” After graduating with a degree in business management, Megan now works in human resources and has enjoyed her results without the need for continuous post-operative visits and further surgeries.
