Chin Surgery / Reconstructive Genioplasty in Atlanta, GA
Dr. Fernando Burstein performs Atlanta chin reconstruction (reconstructive chin surgery) to address an unusually small chin (mirognathia) or an unusually large chin (macrognathia) caused by a congenital defect, disease, or trauma. Depending on the surgical needs of the patient, Dr. Burstein may use a procedure known as osseous genioplasty to move the chin bone forward.
In rare instances, a facial implant may be used to build up the profile of the patient’s chin if there is not enough bone to harvest from another area. When at all possible, Dr. Burstein prefers to use bone, tissue, and fat from the patient’s own body to augment other areas so as to avoid allergic reaction, surgical rejection, and the risk of post-operative infection. For patients with a disproportionately large chin, Dr. Burstein may use surgical techniques to reduce the bone of the chin.
