As discussed in previous blogs, non-surgical facial rejuvenation has recently gained increased popularity according to the 2012 statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). These treatments are commonly used to maintain surgical results or performed in combination with surgical procedures, especially facial procedures, for optimal results. Dr. Fernando Burstein is double board certified in plastic and reconstructive surgery and otolaryngology (head and neck surgery) and offers various non-surgical options for his patients. In addition to traditional non-invasive treatments like Botox®, facial fillers, or chemical peels, Dr. Burstein also provides new technology including Ultherapy® skin tightening and the Sciton® laser systems for other rejuvenation options.
Traditional surgical procedures such as facelift or necklift surgery effectively eliminate the signs of aging. Wrinkles, folds, lax skin, and areas of lost volume are common concerns patients experience as they age. Some procedures are specific to certain facial features like rhinoplasty (nose surgery) or genioplasty (chin surgery) to help patients attain a more youthful and aesthetic appearance. Since these procedures require downtime, Dr. Burstein advises his patients to allow additional time to rest and let skin heal properly.
Additionally, Dr. Burstein may also recommend a minimally invasive treatment to help promote healing and collagen re-growth. For example, our June 2013 spotlight patient chose Ultherapy® non-surgical skin tightening to firm areas of loose skin after undergoing a rhinoplasty and facial contouring combination procedure. Ultherapy® can address residual areas on the jaw and chin area to enhance cosmetic surgery results. This treatment can also help smooth lumps and scars after surgery. Ultherapy® uses ultrasound technology to gently warm deeper layers of tissue, tightening loose skin and stimulating collagen re-growth. Collagen production also helps the body heal more efficiently as new skin cells replace old, damaged ones.
Laser skin resurfacing is another minimally invasive treatment that Dr. Burstein performs both in-office and in the operating room. Using the latest Sciton® Erbium laser technology, Dr. Burstein can treat a wide range of skin conditions and improve uneven skin tone, scars, or photo damage. Using heat energy, Sciton® induces the body’s natural wound healing response to improve recovery and also promote collagen production. Similarly, the Matrix RF™ fractional system also stimulates the body’s healing response and produces new, healthy skin cells through radiofrequency energy.
Along with Dr. Burstein’s new technology treatments, he also offers other non-invasive treatments including TCA chemical peels and cosmetic injectables. Chemical peels exfoliate dead, damaged skin cells and stimulate collagen production for a more even skin tone and healthier appearance. Depending on the patient’s skin condition, patients can receive 15% TCA chemical peels in-office by Dr. Burstein’s nurse practitioner, or a 30% TCA peel is performed during or following a surgical procedure in the operating room. For patients looking to address wrinkles, fine lines, and folds, Debi also performs injectable treatments such as Botox®, Restylane®, Juvéderm®, and Perlane®.
While these procedures yield long-lasting results, they do not completely stop the aging process. Many patients choose additional non-surgical procedures to maintain results as they do not require extensive downtime.
