Dr. Fernando Burstein specializes in Rhinoplasty in Atlanta, GA. Rhinoplasty (surgery of the nose), is a procedure that can change the shape of the nose by lifting and defining the tip, lengthening or shortening the bridge, reducing a hump or knot on the bridge, or narrowing the nostrils. Because of the intricacies of the nose’s contours, rhinoplasty is considered a fairly involved surgery and should therefore be handled by a surgeon with exceptional skill and know-how. Dr. Burstein’s experience as a facial plastic surgeon as well as an Otolaryngologist, or head and neck surgeon, has prepared him for even the most complicated rhinoplasty as he is world renowned for his plastic and reconstructive nose surgery techniques.

Rhinoplasty FAQ

Q.) Will nose surgery make it easier for me to breathe through my nose?
Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) is considered one of the most difficult procedures because a plastic surgeon must focus on maintaining, or in some cases enhancing, function while augmenting the aesthetics of the nose. If a surgeon does not have adequate experience performing rhinoplasty, he or she could easily make breathing through the nose more difficult after the surgery is completed. However, an experienced plastic surgeon can improve breathing through the nose with rhinoplasty.

Q.)What happens during rhinoplasty?
Each rhinoplasty is as unique as the patient on which it’s performed. Rhinoplasty may be performed to change the shape of the nose’s tip, reduce a hump on the bridge of the nose, and/or lengthen or shorten the bridge of the nose. No matter what the cosmetic goal of a rhinoplasty is, incisions are primarily placed on the inside of the nose.

Q.) Does a patient have to be a certain age before undergoing rhinoplasty?
There is much debate surrounding age and plastic surgery. While there is not a set age at which I will begin performing facial plastic surgery on a patient for cosmetic purposes, there are multiple factors I consider first like the patient’s expectations, as well as their physical and emotional maturity. These things are crucial to maximizing patient satisfaction and minimizing the need for revisionary rhinoplasty.

Q.) When is rhinoplasty revision surgery needed?
Many patients pursue rhinoplasty revision when they are not satisfied with the results of their original procedure. Whether the concern is function or aesthetics, Dr. Burstein uses his expertise in facial plastic surgery to perform rhinoplasty revision surgery.
