Facial Rejuvenation in Atlanta, GA
All faces age differently, and while there is no single course of treatment that is universally best for all patients, there are some things that all patients can do to help keep their faces looking younger, longer. It is Dr. Burstein’s philosophy that the first steps towards combatting facial aging can often be taken early on, when a patient is in their late twenties or early thirties, using various non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments. During an initial facial consultation, your clinician can help determine how best to approach the treatment of facial wrinkles with a conversation about the different types of facial lines: static and dynamic.
Dynamic facial lines are the natural result of repeated facial movements or animation. They include the vertical marks that form between our brows when we frown, the horizontal lines that form across our foreheads when we raise our eyebrows, and the “crow’s feet” that develop around our eyes when we smile. The appearance of these lines can often be minimized or even eliminated with a neuromodulator like Botox® Cosmetic or Dysport®. These purified forms of the botulinum toxin alter the transmission of nerve impulses, temporarily decreasing the muscle movement that causes these lines to form. Using a tiny needle, these products can be injected directly into the target muscles, where they begin working within a few days. Over the first week to ten days, you’ll notice a progressive relaxation of the muscles and a “softening” effect on the area treated. Typically, with adequate dosing, this effect can last an average of three to six months. Additional injections may periodically be required in order to maintain the smooth, rested appearance in the treated areas.
Static facial lines are the result of a natural loss of tissue volume and elasticity that gradually occurs over time, regardless of facial movement. However, they can frequently be treated with the use of hyaluronic acid (HA) injectable gels, like Juvéderm®, Restylane®, or Perlane®, that instantly restore volume to the face. Common areas of concern include the nasolabial folds extending from the bottom of the nose to the corners of the mouth, the marionette lines extending from the corners of the mouth downward to the lower jaw, and the vertical lines that appear in the lips and around the mouth. Additional areas of the face may also be treated as necessary to alleviate the loss of facial volume, restoring sunken areas caused by scarring or even enhancing the lips and cheeks. Hyaluronic acid (HA) products range in consistency from small to large particles, and are selected based on the area of volume loss and amount of correction required by the individual patient. Results from hyaluronic injections typically last from six months to as long as two years, depending upon the product, before additional maintenance treatments are necessary.
Dermal fillers are a less invasive option to reversing the beginning signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles. Juvéderm® and Restylane® are non-animal collagen products made of a naturally occurring substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). Because the body naturally produces HA in human collagen an allergic reaction is less likely to occur in response to one of these facial fillers. The results of Juvéderm® and Restylane® generally last around 6 months.
