Facial Contouring in Atlanta, GA

Facial contouring comprises a variety of surgical procedures that are used to enhance or restore the symmetry of the face. By augmenting or minimizing key facial features, such as the cheeks, chin, or jaw, Dr. Fernando Burstein can create a more proportionately balanced and aesthetically pleasing overall appearance.

Minor, subtle facial contouring can frequently be accomplished through a process called fat transfer.  As the face begins to exhibit the signs of facial aging, it slowly loses its natural volume and fullness, leaving the skin hanging in loose folds and creating gaunt, hollow-looking features.  Fat transfer takes fat that has been removed from the abdomen via liposuction, filters and purifies it, and then re-injects it into the areas of the face where volume has decreased.  Typically this restores a youthful fullness to the face while alleviating wrinkles and sagging skin in key areas like the lips and nasolabial folds, all without the need for invasive facial surgery.

More significant adjustments to the chin, jaw, or cheeks can be accomplished through a variety of facial contouring techniques.  Facial implants can often increase the size and projection of a chin, the width of the lower third of the face, or even the projection of the cheekbones, by adding volume to areas that may appear recessed for flat.  Whenever possible, Dr. Burstein prefers to use an autologous graft made up of cartilage, bone, or fat taken from other areas of the patient’s body in lieu of an artificial implant.  Using natural grafts or fat transfer achieves much more natural looking results while significantly reducing the risk of allergic reaction or post-operative infection.

Each person’s face is unique, so Dr. Burstein will meet with potential patients for a consultation to determine the best methods for desired results.  For more information please contact our office in Atlanta, GA.

Facial Contouring FAQs

How long is the recovery period after facial contouring surgery?

Because facial contouring surgery can include one or more of a variety of different procedures, the time necessary to recover from the surgery can vary.  While the increased definition and significant changes in appearance may be apparent almost immediately, results will often be obscured by visible swelling and it may take months for the final results to be clearly visible.
