Wrinkles and dark spots from age, unprotected sun exposure, smoking and other lifestyle factors can make us look older. While these mild signs of aging don’t typically warrant facial plastic surgery, patients are no less ready to pursue other, non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures to eliminate them. Skin resurfacing is an effective treatment for those surface imperfections that can begin to appear as early as one’s 30s or 40s.
Sciton® Erbium Laser Skin Resurfacing
The Sciton® Erbium laser delivers a safe skin resurfacing system that uses light energy to gently exfoliate the upper layers of skin. Similar to other treatments such as chemical peels, Sciton® removes dead, damaged skin cells and encourages collagen production for new, healthy skin. Erbium is scanned over treatment areas where the laser energy is absorbed by the water of the epidermis, allowing it to vaporize the top layers of skin.
Erbium treats most skin types for conditions such as wrinkling, severe acne, post trauma scarring, keratosis, and pigment irregularities. Depending on the individual patient, Erbium treatment levels can be customized to their skin’s needs. While most patients can see visible results after one treatment, some require additional sessions. This procedure may be performed in office or in the operating room, depending on the level of treatment. Anesthesia will be recommended for more comprehensive resurfacing for deeper lines around the eyes and mouth that Dr. Burstein performs.
It is important for patients to schedule a consultation with Dr. Burstein to determine the best treatment plan for optimal results.
Matrix RF™ Fractional Skin Resurfacing
Like traditional fractionated laser skin resurfacing methods, Matrix RF™ makes treated skin look younger by inducing the body’s natural wound healing response. Unlike more traditional methods of facial rejuvenation with laser skin resurfacing, Matrix RF™ treatment accomplishes this not through the use of laser light, but with pulses of radiofrequency energy that heat the underlying layers of the dermis to produce new, younger looking skin cells.
Matrix RF™ skin resurfacing can effectively improve skin brightness, pigmentation issues (dark spots from sun damage or melasma), acne scarring, and mild to moderate facial wrinkling. While an effective treatment plan can only be determined after a cosmetic treatment consultation with Dr. Burstein, most Matrix RF™ fractional skin resurfacing patients achieve favorable rejuvenation results with a series of about three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart.
Laser Resurfacing for Plastic Surgery Scars
Dr. Burstein may suggest laser resurfacing treatments following a surgical procedure or after a patient has healed from a procedure to smooth skin texture and balance skin tone. Laser resurfacing can also be effective in minimizing the appearance of surgical scarring, crow’s feet, and fine lines. Contact Dr. Burstein’s office to schedule a consultation for laser skin resurfacing after plastic surgery.
